— transformers include welding machines in which the current coming from the mains is directly fed to the winding of a step-down transformer — this is their key difference from inverters, which use special circuits to control high voltage current. At the same time, transformers can deliver not only alternating current, but also direct current to the electrodes. The advantages of this type are simplicity of design, reliability, resistance to loads and low cost. Among the shortcomings, it is worth noting the large weight and dimensions, as well as the lower current stability at the output than that of inverters. The consequence of the latter is the relatively low quality of the seam and unsuitability for certain types of specialized work.
