Managed level 2

— all managed switches have the ability to change individual operating parameters right during operation — this is how they differ from custom models, where such control is not available. Another difference is more extensive functionality. And the 2nd level of the OSI network model, on which this type of "switches" operates, is responsible for physical addressing — at the level of MAC addresses; logical addressing (by IP) is not available in such devices. This limits their functionality compared to level 3 models, but in fact this moment is most often not critical, and such switches are cheaper.
