— NMEA is a specialized interface used to interconnect various components of the on-board electronics of modern ships. Accordingly, its presence makes it easy to integrate an echo sounder or chartplotter (see "Type") into such an electronic system. In this case, however, it must be taken into account that there are several versions of NMEA, and for normal compatibility with the general network, the device must support the corresponding version. However, many advanced fish finders / chartplotters can work with both the common NMEA 0183 and the more modern NMEA 2000.
