Dynamic microphones

 

— the classic variety of dynamic microphones has a moving diaphragm connected to a coil. The coil is in a magnetic field and vibrates under the action of sound along with the membrane, due to which an electrical signal arises. The advantages of this type of microphones are low cost and resistance to loud harsh sounds, and, compared to tape models (see the relevant paragraph), they are also compact. On the other hand, at high frequencies, the characteristics of such devices noticeably “sink”.
