— a ceramic carafe/pitcher is made from earthenware, stoneware, or porcelain: an inert material with a neutral taste, well retaining heat and cold due to the wall thickness, but opaque and heavier than glass. The glaze protects against absorbing odors and staining; however, porous or damaged coatings are less compatible with acidic and strongly colored drinks, and sudden temperature changes are also undesirable. Compared to glass and crystal, ceramics excel in drinking comfort and thermal stability, but are not suitable for visually serving wine and monitoring sediment; compared to stainless steel, they are more pleasing on the table, though less impact-resistant. In everyday use, it is an excellent choice for soda and herb-infused water in summer, for compote and cocoa, for mulled wine or tea at the cottage, when a gentle presentation and prolonged temperature retention are important.
