— thin-walled, dense ceramics with non-porous smooth glaze, neutral in taste and smell, and noticeably better at retaining heat/coolness than glass; porcelain, however, is lighter and more elegant than most "ordinary" ceramics. Porcelain differs from ceramics like earthenware or stoneware with its finer structure, lower porosity, and smooth glaze, which means it absorbs pigments and smells less, making it better suited for milk, compotes, lemonade, and herbal tea. In return, it is more brittle upon impacts and poorly withstands sudden temperature changes, requiring careful warming/cooling and preferably hand washing without abrasives. Its opacity makes it less ideal for controlled wine decanting and observing sediment, yet a porcelain pitcher with a lid and silicone seal is convenient for storing drinks in the fridge and serving at the table when coziness, stable temperature, and a "pure" taste are important.
