Shock absorbers
— separately sold shock absorbers for RC models — mainly for cars. The shock absorber is one of the key elements of the suspension, it directly absorbs shocks and vibrations transmitted from the wheels to the frame of the model. So the properties of the suspension directly depend on the properties of the shock absorber, and the replacement of these parts can be highly desirable to adjust the car to a specific track. For example, stiffer suspension reduces body roll in corners and is generally good for high speeds, but reduces traction; it makes sense to use it on fast flat tracks. In turn, the soft suspension makes it difficult to quickly corner and drive at high speeds in general, but allows the machine to reliably "cling" the wheels to the road surface, which is especially important when traveling on difficult terrain. For high-speed tracks with significant roughness, you have to choose a compromise between these two options. In addition, adjusting the stiffness of the suspension on individual axles affects the steering of the model: stiffening the front suspension and softening the rear suspension make the model more stable and sluggish, while softer front and/or stiffer rear suspension, on the contrary, contribute to steering and a tendency to skid.
Note that it is possible to adjust the stiffness within certain limits by changing the attachment point of the existing shock absorber to the strut (see the relevant paragraph) and/or the suspension arm. However, the range of such adjustment is not always sufficient. In addition, replacement shock absorbers may differ from the complete ones in more specific parameters — such as the ratio of compression stiffness and power to expansion. For example, if the stock suspension gives instability when driving, it may be worth replacing the stock shock absorbers with parts with a weaker spring and/or higher compression stiffness of the cylinder. Detailed recommendations on this subject can be found in special sources.
Shock absorbers are most often sold in pairs — based on both wheels of the same axle. There are also complete sets of four units. Such parts can be intended both for specific models and for entire series, or even for any devices with suitable seats.
