Headphone amplifiers with impedance control
Impedance adjustment
— the presence of impedance adjustment in the amplifier — additional manual adjustment to the input impedance of the connected headphones.Note that all amplifiers, to a certain extent, are capable of automatically, without special adjustments, adjusting to the impedance of the headphones. However, such adjustment is possible only in a relatively narrow range — for example, from 16 to 100 ohms. If the device is to be used with a wide variety of “ears”, it may be necessary to additionally change the operation parameters, already manually.
It is this manual adjustment that is implied in this case. Usually, it has the form of a range switch — for example, with the options "0 – 100 Ohm", "100 – 300 Ohm" and "300 – 600 Ohm". The advantage of this function is obvious: it expands the possibilities for configuring the device according to the characteristics of the load. On the other hand, headphone amplifiers are usually bought either for specific "ears" or for a more or less defined and limited impedance range. Therefore, it makes sense to provide additional adjustment mainly in high-end models, the format of which initially requires such versatility.
