Acoustics connecting

— amplifiers that allow the connection of passive acoustics — that is, devices with the ability to work in the format of a power amplifier. For this format of work, the design provides for characteristic outputs — in the form of two pairs of terminals, one pair for each stereo channel (left and right); the presence of such outputs is mandatory for all devices from this category.

Note that this function is quite rare in headphone amplifiers: it is found only in some high-end models, and only stationary ones (see "Type"). This is due to the fact that in order to effectively “drive” passive speakers, a rather high output power is required (which requires an appropriate power supply). In addition, in models with support for passive acoustics, the output power is usually low — most often less than 20 W / channel, and in some devices — only 2 – 3 W / channel. So it makes sense to pay attention to amplifiers with this feature if you plan to use both headphones and low-power passive acoustics; for more "serious" speakers, it makes sense to purchase full-fledged power amplifiers.
