Headphone amplifiers with 3.5 mm output
mini-Jack (3.5 mm)
— connector (or several connectors) mini-Jack 3.5 mm, not intended for connecting headphones.Theoretically, the specific design and specialization of such a connector may be different, however, in fact, a traditional three-pin jack is most often installed in headphone amplifiers, designed to transmit an analogue audio signal in stereo format through a single connector. The traditional way to use such a jack is as a line output, for example, to connect portable speakers or an external audio system. Similar functions are performed by the 6.35 Jack output; however, the 3.5 mm jack, on the one hand, is more compact, on the other hand, it is less reliable, less protected from interference and more limited in capabilities. Therefore, additional mini-jack outputs are found mainly in portable amplifiers (see "Type"), for which small dimensions are crucial.
Separately, we note that other types of inputs can also be built into the 3.5 mm type hardware jack — for example, coaxial and/or optical (see the relevant paragraphs). However, the presence of a mini-jack is indicated only if this connector is capable of operating in a traditional analogue format.
