Mains powered headphone amplifiers
Mains
— power from the household electrical network — in simpler terms, a regular outlet (often with the help of a separate power supply unit). This method is mainly characteristic of stationary amplifiers (see "Type"): it allows for unlimited operating time and virtually any output power, and dependence on outlets for such equipment is usually not critical. However, there are also portable models with network power — in these, it is usually used as a backup option, in addition to a battery and/or USB connection. It should be emphasized that this is not just about charging the battery from the network (most battery-powered amplifiers have this capability), but about power supply when the battery is not used at all; this mode of operation not only saves battery charge but also reduces its wear.
