The material is resistant to corrosion but requires high-quality resin and protective lacquer for UV resistance and to prevent micro-cracks in the joints. This solution is found in premium storm and golf umbrellas, as well as ultra-light travel models where minimal weight and precise geometry are crucial. Compared to fiberglass, carbon is significantly lighter and stiffer at the same thickness, providing better wind resistance and a "sharp" rib shape. However, it is less ductile and breaks without a warning bend under overload, and it's more expensive; fiberglass is more flexible, better withstands frequent reversals and pinpoint impacts, though with a slight loss of "sharp" stiffness.
