Brooches Micro

Dating to circa 1860–1880, this exquisite antique Victorian mosaic brooch features a magnificent micro mosaic artwork composed of hundreds of glass tesserae, painstakingly arranged to depict two whi more→te doves nestled amongst spring flowers against a celestial turquoise sky. The artwork is framed in a warm 15ct yellow gold navette gallery, adorned with scrolled wirework and beading which are classic Etruscan revival design motifs. This piece was likely born of the "Grand Tour," and the mosaic centrepiece may have been purchased in Rome or Venice as a high-status souvenir and brought back to Britain to be set by a master jeweller. A delightful antique micro mosaic dog brooch depicting an adorable King Charles Spaniel laid upon a bed of green grass. The level of detail is astonishing, with realistic colouring and shading inlai more→d expertly into the setting by a true master of the art. The blue plaque setting, and high-level of detail suggest the mosaic is likely Italian-made, dating to the mid-19th Century during the “Grand tour” days.
