The MacBook Pro series of laptops has always been one of the clear market leaders, and this 2017 model has become a worthy successor to the tradition. High-level and high-performance laptops from Apple have always been expensive, and with the advent of truly fast and energy-efficient processors, they've also become genuinely portable. Initially considered the 2017 Apple MacBook Air 13 model year, but decided it would be somewhat weak in terms of cooling for intensive video work. And it doesn't have the magical touch bar, the idea and implementation of which really appealed to me. I often work with video materials that then need to be uploaded to our company's YouTube channel, and this laptop allows me to perform this and other, simpler tasks anywhere (including business trips) and at any time. Its hardware is practically top-notch, surpassed only by desktop versions like the Mac Pro. But their prices are astronomical and, by nature, they are not mobile. Editing and video montage are carried out without issues, and scrolling through the timeline with the touch bar really helps in this task. Encoding FullHD materials in H.264 happens quickly, akin to a powerful modern desktop running Windows. But let's not forget that in this case, a sleek aluminum laptop weighing less than 1.9 kg is doing the work. And, of course, the screen must be mentioned. The Retina Display with a 15.4-inch diagonal and 2880x1800 resolution is perfection itself. There's no point in talking about the detail/brightness/contrast/clarity; these parameters can serve as a benchmark for other manufacturers. But for me, the most important thing was the correct factory color calibration. This is what top MacBook Pros are known for, and it is absolutely essential for color correction. The small SSD drive capacity forces me to carry another 512 GB SSD, only external, connected via USB 3.1 Type C interface. It, like this laptop, also cost a pretty penny. |
