Well-equipped and balanced mid-range ATX motherboard based on Intel B460 chipset with LGA 1200 processor socket. Guaranteed compatible with 10th Gen Intel Core i9/i7/i5/i3/Pentium/Celeron microarchitecture families Comet Lake (14 nm). The manufacturer is positioned as an affordable solution for creating basic-level workstations and multifunctional household (home) configurations.

Equipped with a solid 8-phase processor power subsystem (6 + 2) with an additional aluminium heatsink. Fully supports the functions of fine-tuning the operating mode of the main system components and the operation profiles of 4 fans (CPU FAN + three Case FAN). The Asus PRIME B460-PLUS motherboard supports up to 128 GB of RAM (4x32 GB in up to DDR4-2666 mode). It provides for the connection of two high-speed M.2 SSD drives (PCI-E 3.0 2x/4x) and six SATA3 devices at once with the ability to organize RAID arrays 0/1/5/10. The Realtek RTL8111H controller is responsible for fast data transfer over a cable network. There are 12 USB ports for connecting peripherals, including 6 USB 3.2 Gen1. Two digital outputs (HDMI 1.4b, DisplayPort 1.4) and an analogue D-sub VGA port are provided for displaying an image from the Intel UHD Graphics video core built into the central processor.

Prime

Within the PRIME line, Asus produces moderately high-quality and inexpensive motherboards designed for the mass consumer. And the B460 chipset fits perfectly into this concept, offering the user an optimal set of electronics and ports, but without horse price tags for motherboards with Z490.

Motherboard for mid-level build

Like the junior model in the PRIME line, the Asus PRIME B460-PLUS is designed to build mid-range PCs based on Comet Lake processors without overclocking. B460 in this case is not very good. But unlike the simple Asus PRIME in the PLUS version, you don’t have to regret the lack of connectivity options: here you have 4 slots for RAM with a frequency limit of 2933 MHz, a pair of M.2 with NVMe support, traditional 6 pcs of SATA3, two PCI-E slots 16x with the ability to install two video cards in CrossFire mode and a bunch of USB. However without USB-C, look for it in more expensive boards. Old video outputs (analogue VGA and digital DVI-D) and a couple of classic PCI slots that allow you to connect some old peripherals like an internal sound card are striking from the unusual.

Not suitable for CPUs with high heat dissipation

Formally, Asus PRIME B460-PLUS supports all existing Comet Lake processors up to Core i9. But if someone decides to assemble a powerful supercomputer on its basis, then it is better to stop and exhale. There are only 8 power phases, the radiator is small, the thermal pads are simple, and the Digi + ASP1400CTB digital controller is not designed for exploits. On such good, it is best to start simple chips with a heat dissipation of 57 – 65 watts. Why not the Core i7-10700 which has the same TDP? But because the power subsystem is not enough to maintain stable frequencies in the turbo boost and the radiator will work for wear. With the power limit turned off on the test bench, it managed to heat up to 132 °C. And it's not an electric grill.
