Legend number 700
In the wake of the trend for active noise cancellation, the eminent American brand Bose introduced another model of this kind, the Bose Noise Canceling Headphones 700. The new headphones cost about $ 400 and are located just above the popular QuietComfort 35 II model in the company's assortment. Unlike them, Headphones 700 look more futuristic, they have touch controls, a very serious noise reduction system and a better headset. Moreover, they work great in tandem: if in many headphones with ANS turned on you hear your voice, as if through a down pillow, the brainchild of Bose, thanks to the army of built-in microphones (8 pieces, to be precise), works more subtly. There is even a separate conversational mode Self Voice, which allows you to adjust the audibility of your own voice.
The evolution of QuietComfort 35
Battery life remained at the same level as that of the QuietComfort 35 II — that is, about 20 hours of music with noise reduction turned on. In this case, the difference is made by fast charging via USB-C, which in 15 minutes at the outlet gives the headphones an additional 3.5 hours of life. However, headphones for $400 are not only cool noise reduction, convenience and other goodies, but also great sound. Bose has never had a problem with this, so it's no surprise that the new model sounds great too. The firm transparent and driving sound remained untouched, but in terms of a subjective feeling it became more interesting than that of the QuietComfort 35 II. On the other hand, as if the requirements for the quality of the sound source have increased, even the deaf will hear the difference between the FLAC recordings and the audio stream from Apple Music. It’s bad that only AAC is supported from codecs and basic SBC, aptX HD and LDAC in headphones of this level would definitely not hurt.
Damn comfortable headphones
And what about convenience, owners of the Bose QC35 will ask? These headphones have become a legend in their own way and, despite the closed design, they practically did not tyre the head and ears. The Bose NCH 700 has a complete order with this: the same huge cups and a headband as light as a feather allow you to keep them on your head, even if you fly from one continent to another. In summer, it can be hot to sit in them for a long time, but this is a feature of absolutely all closed overhead models. If we talk about the minuses, we can note the lack of the ability to fold the headphones and the so far buggy Bose Music mobile application, which replaced Bose Connect. Not everyone will like the touch panel for headphone control, but this, again, is more of a matter of habit.
