Classic forms

The Edifier R980T system gravitates toward the classic "monitor" design. The body of the speakers is made of dense MDF and covered with vinyl film. From the front, everything is covered with protective grills, if you remove them, you will see nice wavy woofer cones, a fabric tweeter with a massive dome and a phase inverter hole. It's cool that Edifier didn't skimp on materials, typically $50 speakers use cheaper plastic tweeters. Well, the build quality here, as always, is on top: you will not find any glue residue, dangling clamps or under-torqued bolts here.

For music lovers

The total power of the Edifier R980T is 24W. Given their price, this is not the largest stock. But there is such a trick that, like all acoustics from Edifier, this couple is designed primarily for music lovers. To loudly bang in movies and games, it is better to look for something simpler and more powerful. Ideally, this is generally the 2.1 option with a separate subwoofer. The speakers themselves sound very good: the tweeters play cleanly and pleasantly, the bass pleases with a quick attack and depth.

Sound not for $50

If you look for flaws, then the sound is somewhat lacking in volume, which is inherent in more expensive speakers. Plus dense and aggressive musical genres like rock music sometimes sound blurry. However all this concerns comparison with more expensive acoustics. If we compare it with competitors for $ 50, then the Edifier R980T looks more like a Hi-Fi.

RCA connection

Now about the connection. All connectors and regulators are displayed on the back wall, which is not very convenient. There would be a remote control, then no questions. But he is not. The volume and bass controls turned out to be quite massive and have a hard move. Fans of old-school acoustics will appreciate it. Everything is connected with RCA cables. The only pity is that there is no headphone output.
