The shock-resistant "shell" of the model protects the internal hardware of the camera from damage when dropped from a 1.8-metre height, reliable sealing allows the camera to withstand diving to a depth of up to 25 m, and the claimed frost resistance affects the Fuji FinePix XP140's performance at outdoor temperatures down to -10 °C.

The model uses a 16.4-megapixel image sensor with a physical size of 1/2.3". The stabilized lens of the rugged compact covers a range of equivalent focal lengths of 28-140mm. As the zoom increases, the aperture ratio of the camera's standard optics changes from f/3.9 (at the short end) to f/4.9 (at the telezoom). Video on the "baby" is written in resolution up to 4K, but with a low frame rate (15 fps). In FullHD format, the frame rate rises to an acceptable 60 fps. The model was equipped with a 3-inch display, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth wireless modules, as well as a built-in flash that reaches a distance of 4.4 m. The level of camera battery life is estimated by the ability to shoot about 240 frames on a single battery charge.
