The perfect smartphone according to Google

The Pixel smartphone series was conceived by Google as a reference. Say, look how we did, and now you can repeat after us. But neither the first nor the second Pixel, for various reasons, could not become an perfect flagship. Did the perfect from the third series turn out?

Given that the hardware in the Pixel 3 XL is identical to most of the new flagships, the main distinguishing feature of the smartphone is the cameras. Firstly, Google got everything mixed up and instead of a dual main camera, they made a dual front camera.

Dual camera with wide angle lens

And this is why it was done: the second front camera module is equipped with a wide-angle lens that allows you to fit more people into a group selfie or cover more panoramas with a self-portrait. According to Google, the front camera allows you to capture 184% more space. In general, here 5+ for resourcefulness.

And the main camera has only one module, but the camera shoots perfectly. Or rather, not just excellent, but EXCELLENT. Google has always believed that software optimization plays no less important role than the camera itself, so the second Pixel is still in the top ten best camera phones from DxOMark.

Built for night shooting

The main feature of the main camera was the ability to take pictures at night, which remains beyond the control of the cameras of even the most expensive smartphones. Google quite cleverly solved this problem: when you turn on the Night Sight mode, the smartphone takes several pictures in a second and combines them into one frame using artificial intelligence. Thanks to this skill, the Pixel leaves even the vaunted iPhone XS camera far behind. Also worth highlighting is the Top Shot mode, which takes several shots before and after the shutter is released, and then chooses the best of them — where no one blinked or is not covered by a foreign object.

Modern frameless design

As for everything else, compared to the Pixel 2 XL, the third version of the smartphone has retained approximately the same dimensions, but the screen has noticeably increased. This was achieved through a frameless design with 18:9 proportions and the already familiar notch cutout at the top of the screen. As a result, the display diagonal of the Pixel 3 XL is 6.3" with a resolution of 2960x1440 pixels. This is good. But the size of the bangs is not very. It's big here, even by the standards of the iPhone X trendsetter.

The most powerful processor in existence

As with any other fall 2018 flagship, the Pixel 3 XL is powered by the most powerful processor available today, the octa-core Snapdragon 845 with a maximum operating frequency of 2.5 GHz. The size of the built-in storage in the basic configuration is 64 GB. Apparently, such a margin for the eyes is enough for most users, so there is no slot for a memory card. But what surprised me was only 4 GB of RAM. Now this is more than enough, perhaps it will be enough in a year. But what if not? Buying a new Pixel? It is not for nothing that all the other flagships of this fall are equipped with at least 6 GB, so that there is a margin of safety.

Support wireless charging

For the first time in the Pixel series, support for wireless charging (Qi wireless charging) has been introduced. The battery itself is slightly smaller in capacity than in the second generation — 3430 mAh. Subjectively, the operating time is at a good level: with a network connection, maximum display brightness and loads in the form of constant social network updates and browsing, the smartphone lasts up to a day.

In general, Google turned out to be a not indisputable smartphone with an excellent camera, a waterproof case (IP68 standard) and a pack of unique photo modes, so first of all it should be paid attention to by those who are looking for a top-level camera phone.
