Design in the style of older Huawei models

Huawei has been on fire lately. In a good way. So the brand new Nova 4 is an extremely interesting option. The smartphone received a glass case with an aluminium frame and a back cover with a gradient colour that shimmers spectacularly in the sun.

The front camera is embedded directly into the screen

The front is a touchscreen display with very thin bezels and a slight bottom indent. But the familiar cutout-bangs are not here. Instead, in the upper left corner of it there is a small round hole in which the front camera is mounted. And the front speaker in the form of a narrow strip is hidden in the upper frame. This design option looks much neater than the iPhone X's large notch, and we suspect that soon most smartphones will adhere to this design. In the meantime, Nova 4 has become one of the first.

Huge display in 86% of the front panel area

The smartphone uses a 6.4-inch IPS screen with very thin bezels. The resolution of the IPS display is 2310 by 1080 pixels. At the same time, the screen itself occupies more than 86% of the total area of the front panel. The matrix is distinguished not only by excellent detail, but also by a very rich colour palette. This is especially noticeable when you watch video clips or run children's games that are full of colours. At the same time, the colour temperature can be adjusted to suit yourself — in the settings there are several colour profiles and an option for manual adjustment.

Almost flagship processor Kirin 970

As a hardware platform, Nova 4 uses the near-top octa-core Kirin 970 chip, which you may have seen in other smartphones from the company. The amount of RAM was 8 GB, flash memory — 128 GB. It doesn't make much sense to talk about performance here, 8 months ago it was absolutely flagship hardware, and during this time it has not lost much in performance.

Excellent triple camera

Much more interesting is that the Kirin 970 was the first processor of the company that truly revealed the ability of artificial intelligence (AI) to control the camera, quietly helping the user to build a white balance, focus objects in the frame, etc. The main camera with three modules is available to the user (the main one at 48 MP) and the same 25 MP front camera that is embedded in the screen. Huawei claims to have used "the smallest module in the industry" — its size is only 3.05 mm. Like all recent smartphones from the company, the Nova 4 takes great pictures and beats most of the competition in the sub-$400 price range.

A smartphone that works out the price by 110%

In general, if you want flagship hardware and near-flagship features, but do not want to overpay, then Nova 4 for its $400 looks like an perfect option. In addition to all of the above, it has a basic fingerprint scanner, support for aptX codecs, a capacious battery with a fairly effective battery saver function, and a full-fledged audio jack. For a complete set, only fast charging and NFC are missing.
