The junior model in the flagship P40 line, gravitating towards the initial-middle league of smartphones. The main feature of the gadget is considered to be a "perforated" screen — a hole in the upper left segment of the display is made under the lens of an 8 MP selfie camera. It is used to take self-portraits and unlock the smartphone by the owner's face (along with a fingerprint sensor on the back).

In general, the screen of Huawei P40 Lite E is characterized by a diagonal size of 6.39", aspect ratio of 19.5:9 and a picture resolution of 1560x720 pixels. In the “engine compartment” of the model, the homegrown Kirin 710F chipset, flavored with 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of ROM, rules the ball. This combination does not break records in terms of performance, but it also does not graze the rear under moderate-average loads. The device is managed by the proprietary EMUI 9.1 shell based on Android Pie without pre-installed Google services. Under the wing of the main camera of the smartphone, image sensors of 48 + 8 + 2 + 2 MP are combined. Another strong point of the model is a 4000 mAh rechargeable battery.

Why do smartphones start to slow down and what amount of RAM is now considered optimal?Let's explore the reasons for the slowdown and the optimal amount of RAM for smartphones

very distant relative

In pursuit of their best smartphones, every self-respecting brand releases a Lite version with a similar design and message, but simpler hardware and less sophisticated functionality. For some, these Lite versions are not too different from the originals (hello, Galaxy Note10 Lite with a full stylus), for others, they have nothing to do with the original. Well, except for the name.

The Huawei P40 Lite E definitely falls into the second category, which has as much in common with its father as a toad and a hippopotamus. Considering the very limited price tag of around $150, it is not surprising that the device is more like other state employees of Huawei or Honor, and in terms of design it almost completely repeats the recent hit P Smart 2019. It has the same back cover with the camera unit moved to the left and a fingerprint scanner in the centre , and a similar gradient colour scheme, familiar from flagship Huawei handsets.

High-quality IPS display with a diagonal of 6.4"

The entire front panel of the smartphone is occupied by a 6.4-inch IPS display. Even considering the low-cost, the display is pretty good, but the 1560x720 resolution is a little confusing: the graininess is not particularly striking, but the same P Smart 2019 with the same price tag has a FullHD screen (2340x1080). Otherwise, it has a normal margin of brightness, high image contrast and colour saturation.

Forget about the brakes

The Huawei P40 Lite E uses the entry-level Kirin 710F octa-core chipset as the hardware platform. The amount of RAM is 4 GB, the built-in storage is 64 GB. Such a bundle is quite enough for everyday tasks, surfing the net, chatting in several instant messengers and launching not too demanding toys. In general, looking at the price and characteristics, I would like to rejoice once again at the increased performance of inexpensive smartphones. If a couple of years ago they put anything from Mediatek and at best 2 GB of RAM into such tubes, now the situation has leveled off great. These are no longer hellish slowpacks, but rather balanced devices.

Savings must be economical

However, there is nowhere without savings, so Huawei P40 Lite E is extremely far from the word “stuffed”: Wi-Fi here is ordinary single-band, instead of USB C there is an old micro USB, the case is purely plastic, charging is 10 watts. Because of this, we still cannot make an unambiguous conclusion whether this is a good smartphone. The fact is that last year's mid-range smartphones have now descended into the low-cost segment and the P Smart 2019 mentioned above can now be found literally for $15 more. But for that extra charge, you get a cooler display, dual-band Wi-Fi, NFC, and Google services that the company's new smartphones don't have. At the same time, the P40 Lite E has slightly more RAM, three camera modules instead of two, and a more powerful battery.
