Video reviews

The Nikon 1 line of mirrorless cameras is highly controversial. On the one hand, it is crammed with all sorts of "tasty chips", and on the other hand, it has a small 1-inch matrix, similar in size to compact cameras. It is 2.7 times smaller than the 35mm full-frame format that is commonly compared to. Despite the excellent performance, advanced photo enthusiasts are repelled by the size of the sensor. But in vain.

First in many ways

Compared to its predecessor (Nikon 1 J4), the model has acquired a new retro style, grown up and acquired a comfortable grip for the hand. A 20.8 MP sensor is installed inside the camera. The pixel density in it is very high, which is why it is better not to shoot at high ISO values, as the photos will be noisy. The camera is strong in other ways: it has a fast and tenacious hybrid autofocus system, consisting of 171 points (105 phase-type points and 66 contrast points), and can also record 4K videos. Albeit with a small frame rate (15 fps), but it is the first among all Nikon cameras to have the ability to record video in ultra-high resolution.

Ergonomics

Among Nikon mirrorless cameras, the Piglet was the first to receive an inclined screen. It is convenient to look at it from the lower and upper angles of the shooting. Disappointing that there was no place for a hot shoe. But Nikon engineers did not stint on the built-in flash and Wi-Fi and NFC modules for quick connection of the camera with mobile devices.

Lot of lovers

In terms of characteristics (autofocus, burst speed and video capabilities), a mirrorless camera can easily compete with older mirror counterparts (Nikon D3300, Nikon D5500). However, the lack of a hot shoe, an electronic viewfinder, ports for connecting a microphone, as well as the physical size of the matrix, give out amateur roots in it.
