Nikon offers photographers several attractive options for wide-angle, constant-aperture zoom lenses, including the premium 14-24mm f/2.8 S, the more affordable 14-30mm f/4 S, and the budget 17-28mm f/2.8. It is the latter model that we will consider in more detail.

Although the Nikon Nikkor Z 17-28mm f/2.8 does not boast an ultra-wide angle of view, its 17-28mm range is quite sufficient for most landscape, interior and architectural photography tasks. With a constant f/2.8 aperture at all focal lengths, the lens allows for dramatic background blur, which adds creative possibilities.

Technical characteristics and ease of use

The optical design of the lens is identical to that of the Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 Di III RXD, containing 13 elements in 11 groups, including aspherical, ultra-low dispersion and ED lenses. Internal zoom and focusing make the Nikon Nikkor Z 17-28mm f/2.8 ideal for video shooting, as the lens maintains its dimensions and does not change the balance of the camera. A quiet and precise STM stepper motor is responsible for autofocusing.

Customization and versatility

A reprogrammable ring on the lens barrel adds ease of use, allowing you to adjust focus, aperture, ISO or exposure compensation depending on the photographer's needs. Compatibility with 67mm filters and similar parameters to the Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 makes it easy to use in combination with other lenses. The dust- and water-resistant housing ensures reliability in a variety of shooting conditions. Using the lens with Nikon Z DX format cameras expands its capabilities, turning it into a wide-angle with an equivalent field of view of about 25-42 mm.
