One of the few consumer SSDs with an 8 TB capacity, made in the classic 2.5-inch format with a SATA interface. The drive is part of the second-generation Samsung QVO lineup (2020), which is aimed at users who require a large storage capacity at a moderate cost—such as for multimedia libraries, backup solutions, or replacing HDDs in desktop PCs. The Samsung 870 QVO is built on the Samsung MKX controller and uses four-bit 3D QLC NAND memory.

Speeds are at the ceiling of SATA 3 interface capabilities—sequential reads up to 560 MB/s and writes up to 530 MB/s. For improved performance in active writing tasks, it employs the Intelligent TurboWrite technology: with dynamic SLC caching, a buffer of up to 78 GB ensures steady performance even with large data volumes. Built-in DRAM buffering of 8 GB helps maintain stable access speeds under multitasking loads—up to 98,000 IOPS for reading and 88,000 for writing. The stated endurance is 2880 TBW with a mean time to failure of 1.5 million hours. TRIM commands, encryption, and error correction are supported.
