High-performance 250GB consumer M.2 SSD with high-speed PCI-E 4x interface and full support for NVMe 1.3 protocol. Made in a compact form factor M.2 2280. It is positioned as a product of the upper part of the middle price category. Designed for personal computers, compatible laptops and entry-level workstations. The hardware basis of this model is a high-performance Samsung Phoenix multi-channel controller with a 512 MB DRAM buffer based on LPDDR4 memory. 64-layer proprietary 3D TLC V-NAND flash memory features enhanced reliability and decent I/O performance. The controller supports high-speed SLC write caching technology, which provides superior drive performance as a system drive. SSD Samsung 970 EVO M.2 MZ-V7E250BW guarantees ultra-fast loading of the operating system, resource-intensi...ve applications and "heavy" games. The manufacturer declares an impressive guaranteed write resource (TBW) of 150 TB. This makes it possible to record about 40 GB of data daily for 10 years.

Evolution according to Linnaeus

The Samsung 970 EVO M.2 is a "reactive" M.2 NVMe SSD that is several times faster than typical 2.5" SATA and M.2-SATA. It is built on Samsung's own 3D TLC memory and a Phoenix controller. The older model 970 PRO M.2 has the same controller, but even faster and more durable 3D MLC memory. Both models come with an extended five-year warranty.

Hot stuff

Linear read and write speeds within a 10-gigabyte SLC array are 3400 and 1500 MB / s, which is three to seven times faster than top-end SATA SSDs. When the array overflows, the read speed does not change, and the write speed drops by a factor of three, which approximately corresponds to the level of a planar MLC memory. Another thing is that PC users rarely operate 10-gig files, so the speed drop due to overflow of the SLC array will practically not happen. But an emergency speed reset due to controller overheating is a typical situation for NVMe SSDs. The problem is solved by a cooling radiator, which are sold both separately and bundled with some motherboards.

Not a second of delay

Even more impressive is the processing speed of the smallest 4K blocks: 350K and 250K IOPS for reading and writing, respectively. The credit for this is not only the fast Samsung memory and the Phoenix controller, but also the DDR4 cache RAM (instead of the low-frequency DDR3). We can recommend the Samsung 970 EVO M.2 for purchase first of all to avid gamers and computer enthusiasts who already lack the bandwidth of SATA drives. Most importantly, do not forget to check before buying whether the M.2 slot of your PC or laptop supports the NMVe interface or only the slow M.2-SATA.
