Small and economical 2.5″ form factor internal hard drive from the 2016 BarraCuda Compute family of mobile HDDs. This line includes 6 models from 500 GB to 5 TB, which are designed to solve the widest range of tasks. Uses tiled magnetic recording (SMR) technology to increase capacity. It is positioned as an affordable product in the middle price category, focused on use in laptops, mobile HDD cases, small-sized desktop PCs (All-in-one PC) and HTPC.

It is a reliable solution for storing work project data, video / audio content, photos. The Seagate BarraCuda Compute 2.5″ ST1000LM048 hard drive can be used as the main (system) drive or paired with a more powerful SSD drive. Due to its modest overall dimensions (only 7 mm high) and the standard SATA3 interface, it can be used to upgrade existing mobile computers. Equipped with a powerful controller that works in conjunction with a large buffer (128 MB), which improves performance through caching. The rotation speed of the plates is 5400 rpm, which has the most positive effect on heat dissipation. The maximum power consumption does not exceed 1.7 W, and a low starting current makes it possible, if necessary, to fully power the drive from the USB port.

A good model for the price at that time

Bought about 3-4 years ago, used in tandem with Optibay. It's currently installed in my PC and works fine, but I'm a little concerned about attribute 193 over time; it seems the drive parks the heads too frequently, which is typical for a laptop drive to protect against falls. Optibay worsened the worst attribute 188, but there are no errors now. It is SMR apparently, but it works fast for its kind.
