This relatively compact and lightweight lens stands out for its good aperture (f/2.8 over the entire range of focal lengths) and the ultrasonic HSM motor (Hyper Sonic Motor) for quiet and fast focus. To effectively prevent all types of chromatic aberrations, 4 elements of SLD (Special Low Dispersion) low dispersion glass are included in the optical scheme of the lens. Multi-coated lenses are designed to reduce the appearance of glare, as well as to achieve natural colour reproduction. In combination with the Sigma 1.4x EX DG APO or 2x EX DG APO teleconverters (sold separately), focal length ranges of 70-210mm at f/4 or 100-300mm at f/5.6 can be achieved.
