The new senior model in the line of the well-known Japanese company is designed to eventually replace the predecessor Sony KD-55A1. Compared to it, the TV looks neater, takes up less space, and its screen is not so much tilted, which is primarily due to the replacement of the stand.
The highest picture parameters
The Sony KD-55AF8 has a 55-inch OLED screen that reproduces natural blacks and has an infinite level of contrast. The screen brightness is inferior to QLED models, but peak values of 300 cd / m2 are enough to cope with glare in well-lit rooms.
Factory calibration assumes accurate colour reproduction, which, together with a wide colour gamut and HDR support, will provide the viewer with a natural and saturated picture with the finest shades.
Image quality is practically independent of viewing angles, so it is not necessary to select a place strictly in the centre of the screen.
Excellent dynamics
The Sony KD-55AF8 matrix supports a frame rate of 120 Hz, so the TV instantly responds to any movement, guaranteeing a smooth video sequence without jerking or flickering. Supporting performance is the X1 Extreme™ processor, which also improves colour reproduction (Live Colour) and SD picture clarity, pulling up the image to HDR and Ultra HD 4K standards.
High-quality sound with low frequencies
Sony KD-55AF8 is equipped with a 5-channel audio system with a subwoofer, with a total power of 50 watts. An additional surround sound effect is created by DTS Digital Surround technology.
Also, the model received 4 digital TV tuners for playing terrestrial, cable and satellite television. To display content from third-party devices, popular interfaces and wireless technologies are provided, including Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.
The TV is running Android TV. A wide range of applications is available to the user, the menu is conveniently grouped, but delays and freezes still happen. The device is controlled by a multimedia remote with support for Google Assistant voice search.
