A distinctive feature of the classic food warmer is a rather high lid — usually semicircular, with a sliding segment — covering the contents. This lid allows you to maintain the temperature more efficiently, and you can open it to remove the contents without removing it. However, food warmers are often called the same chafendish, in which the lids are flat and are used mainly after hours.
