Without going into technical details, we note that such a system eliminates the need for an external rear cassette hub — the gearshift mechanism is completely hidden in the hub, and it is compact and well-protected from dirt. Also in such systems, it is possible to provide a coaster brake, although there are models with a mount for a brake disc. The main disadvantage of planetary hubs is the high price.
