Wi-Fi booster
— devices designed to amplify the Wi-Fi signal from an existing router or access point. They allow you to expand the coverage area, get rid of "dead zones", as well as improve the overall quality of communication and make the signal more stable.Note that MESH systems have a similar purpose (see the relevant paragraph). However, amplifiers use a more traditional format of operation — repeater mode. For more information about it, see "Software features", here we note that in a number of features this mode is noticeably inferior to MESH. So, the amplifier and the main router / access point are visible to users as two separate networks, and switching between them occurs with a disconnection (and if automatic switching is set in the settings of the user device, then “throwing” between the two networks is also possible if the signal level about the same from them). In addition, operation through the amplifier leads to a noticeable loss in speed. On the other hand, such devices are noticeably simpler and cheaper than individual MESH nodes. So this particular type of equipment may be the best option for simple home use, when you only need to slightly expand the existing coverage and there is no need to build an extensive network with many equivalent connection points.
