The advantages of such devices are the accuracy and reliability of work; in addition, it is easier to provide high DPI values in laser mice (although such indicators can also be found in optical models). Thus, advanced gaming and professional (for designers and artists) mice are made predominantly laser. On the other hand, such sensors are noticeably more expensive than optical ones, and work worse on some specific surfaces (although there will definitely be no problems on a standard tabletop or rug).
