Such a port allows you to connect a flash drive or hard drive to the server for direct data exchange, a printer to function as a print server, and so on. However, this version of USB is becoming less common nowadays, as it's considered outdated compared to the emergence of faster and more advanced standards, especially USB 3.2 Gen 1 (see the relevant section). Nevertheless, USB 2.0 is quite sufficient for relatively simple tasks, such as working with a flash drive or printer. Additionally, many types of newer USB peripherals can be connected to these ports (either directly with regular USB plugs or with USB-C via an adapter); issues might only arise with devices that require high power, like hard drives that get energy from the USB port.
