— actually, this type of array does not apply to classic RAID. Its name is an abbreviation of an English phrase that literally means "just a bunch of disks" — which quite accurately describes the features of the work. JBOD does not use fragmentation, checksums, etc. tricks — information is written to each disk in the traditional way. However, all disks are lined up "in a queue"; when the space ends on the first one, the recording continues on the second one, and so on. Due to this, one file can be divided between several neighboring disks. JBODs are easy to organize because allow you to use disks with different characteristics and easily supplement the array; they provide good performance and do not have redundancy (usable volume is equal to the sum of the volumes of all disks). On the other hand, the reliability of such arrays is still lower than that of a single disk (although higher than that of RAID 0, which also has no redundancy).
