Seagate is one of the most active players in the server hardware market, so it is not surprising that they were one of the first to launch a separate line of high-end SSD drives for data centers. Most of the Seagate Nytro series features power loss protection, end-to-end data protection, intelligent temperature control features, high reliability, the ability to rewrite data on the drive 1-3 times a day, and an official 5-year manufacturer's warranty.
Seagate produces most Nytro drives in the classic 2.5-inch form factor, often using a compact, heat-resistant case. Occasionally they are accompanied by compact NVMe SSDs of M.2 format with similar characteristics. As a rule, each drive has several options with available memory capacity - 480 GB, 960 GB, 1.92 TB and 3.84 TB. In some 2023 models, the ceiling was raised to 6.4 TB. In drives produced in 2019-2022, the connections usually use a profile SAS interface; in newer products, the manufacturer has upgraded them. In particular, the Nytro 5350M and Nytro 5350H models now support the high-speed PCI-E 4.0 bus, thanks to which their linear read and write speeds have increased several times.
And at the end of 2023, Seagate introduced the Nytro 5060 models, designed to work with resource-intensive applications at hyperscaler sites and data centers. These are next-generation enterprise SSDs with support for the fifth generation PCI-E interface and the Phison X Gen5 controller, which was not used in any commercially available SSD before the announcement. The Nytro 5060 comes in two different variants (E3.S and U.2), supports dual-port configurations, and also offers a choice between 1 and 3 DWPD versions.
