Anti-gels
Anti-gel
— additives that prevent thickening of diesel fuel at low temperatures; a kind of "antifreeze" for diesel fuel. One of the components of most brands of diesel fuel is paraffin. At relatively high temperatures (above zero, mild frosts), it is dissolved in the fuel and does not affect its viscosity. However, in severe frosts, the paraffin begins to thicken and even form crystals that can clog fuel lines and the fuel filter, or even disable the fuel system. Of course, there is no talk of normal start-up and operation in this case either. Anti-gel additives eliminate this phenomenon: they reduce the paraffin crystallization temperature, allowing the fuel to remain liquid even in severe frosts -20 °C and below. However, the specific minimum temperature for different additives can also be different, it is better to check this point according to the instructions.
Also note that when choosing, it is worth taking a certain margin of temperature — at least 5 – 7 °C. The fact is that the performance of anti-gel additives is usually indicated for perfect conditions. In fact, situations often arise when the effectiveness of such an additive decreases: for example, some impurities in the fuel can contribute to the crystallization of paraffin. Therefore, for example, if the machine is planned to be operated at -20 °C, it is worth making sure that the selected additive works at a temperature of at least -25 °C, and preferably -30 °C.
