The extruder is a module for supplying printed material in FDM/FFF or similar type printers (see "Printing Technology"). Such a module consists of a heating chamber for melting thermoplastic (or a pump for supplying liquid material — in some specific 3D printing technologies), as well as a nozzle. In fact, the number of extruders is the number of nozzles provided in the printer.

Specifically, 2 extruders (2 nozzles) are provided to expand the printing possibilities. One of the most popular ways to use this feature is to print the main structure and its supports at the same time using two different thermoplastics — for example, ABS for the main product and HIPS or PVA for the supports (see the corresponding list for more information on printing materials). Another format of work is the simultaneous printing of two different colours with one material. All such operations, with certain tricks, can be performed with one nozzle — however, this is noticeably more difficult, and some designs, in principle, are printed with only two extruders.

On the other hand, the increase in the number of extruders significantly affects the cost; therefore, it is worth looking for a model with more than one nozzle in cases where additional features are fundamental for you. In this regard, it is also worth noting that some printers are available in several modifications that differ in the number of extruders.
