— the material used in FDM/FFF printing (see "Printing Technology") and some other technologies is mainly used as an auxiliary material — to create supports under parts that are on weight. In printers with a single extruder, this printing first forms the supports from HIPS, then the main product from ABS; in this case, printing of complex multi-tiered structures can be carried out in several stages — first the supports, then the next “floor” of the structure. And in the presence of two extruders (see "Functions and Capabilities"), the procedure is simplified as much as possible, you can work with both materials at the same time.Anyway, HIPS is convenient in that after the end of the process, temporary structures can be easily removed. However unlike another material with the same purpose — PVA — this will require not water, but a special solvent; however, even citric acid is suitable for the role of this solvent. And thanks to its insensitivity to moisture, HIPS is noticeably easier to store than PVA. On the other hand, for a number of reasons, this type of thermoplastic is recommended to be used only with the mentioned ABS.
