— semi-precious stone (or inexpensive precious — depending on the classification). The classic colour of garnet is red in various shades; due to this, such an insert may not be inferior in appearance to a ruby (at a much lower cost).

Note that for people familiar with literature, pomegranate can have a special meaning: in Kuprin's story "Garnet Bracelet", the decoration that gave the name to the work is a symbol of pure, noble and unrequited love.
