From the manufacturer's press release:

Canon has announced the long-awaited replacement for the hugely popular EOS 400D DSLR. The new product has an improved 12 MP CMOS sensor, the LCD display has become even larger and 50% brighter than the predecessor display: now not 2.5” but 3” inches. Finally, the Live-View function is implemented in two autofocus modes: passive and scene contrast. The DSLR has a Digic III processor. Increased burst shooting speed to 3.5 frames per second. RAW files here are already 14-bit. Spot metering has been added to the exposure. The camera now supports SD and SDHC memory cards instead of CF cards. The Canon body has become smaller and lighter. Slightly changed the design and layout of the control keys.
