I had to buy a camera to replace the broken D5200 due to my own foolishness. I knew that the 5300 is the sister model of the "deceased" one. That’s exactly what I was hoping for because I needed to use the two orphaned lenses.

The D5300 externally is an exact replica of its predecessor. Very compact (for a DSLR) and lightweight. The body is plastic, with a rough texture that feels good in the hand. The shape of the body is the same, ergonomic and comfortable.
The autofocus is quite fast, but in Live View mode, it traditionally works about three times slower. This mode remains as sluggish as in the D5200, which is quite strange since the D5300 has a new, more efficient processor installed.
However, the D5300 determines automatic exposure more accurately than the older model. The misses have noticeably decreased, it seems the developers have improved the algorithms.
Shots taken with the right lighting are still flawless, detailed, and convey color very well. There is little noise, with noticeable noise appearing only at 3200 and above.
One of the main innovations is the ability to shoot progressive 1080p video with a frame rate of 50. Cool, looks great, I will use it.
Wi-Fi and GPS have been added, but more on them later.
The battery compared to the D5200 has become more capacious. Without flash, you can shoot for a VEEEERY long time )))

When recording video, the built-in microphone picks up the sound of focusing and keystroke clicks on the body. The Wi-Fi functions are not well-developed, as you can't transfer photos to your own laptop "over the air." So what's the point of having such Wi-Fi?

great model, love it

My husband gave me such a camera for my birthday, Nikon D5300 18-105. I really like that the lens shoots quite far and the photos are clear. I'm still figuring out the camera, so far I like everything.

It's difficult to set up the GPS and Wi-Fi. In principle, I don't really need Wi-Fi, but the GPS is tough, and I still haven't figured out how. They said in the shop that when it's on, it will quickly drain the battery, which is bad.
