A perfectly balanced, full-format motherboard for gamers and overclocking enthusiasts from Gigabyte. It belongs to the upper price segment, is included in the popular series of Gigabyte Gaming components in 2023. Designed for demanding gamers, overclocking enthusiasts and dedicated professionals who are looking for a high-performance and reliable workstation foundation based on the 12th or 13th generation Intel Core platform.
Designed in accordance with the Ultra Durable concept, which implies the use of a high-quality and reliable element base. According to it, a key role in the durability of motherboards is played by a high-end element base, built on the basis of heat-resistant capacitors, ferrite chokes and low-resistance field-effect transistors. Gigabyte Z790 GAMING X AX is based on the flagship Z790 system logic, and its heart is an extremely powerful hybrid 19-phase power subsystem with additional cooling for power circuits and critical areas.
The price, equipment and high level of quality make it similar to the elite motherboards from the Gigabyte Aorus line, so the most reasonable option would be to build a powerful gaming or workstation based on it with a Core i7 / i9 caliber processor, a lot of RAM, a disk array of several M. 2 SSD drives and an RTX 3080-level graphics card. Less powerful components will not be able to fully unleash its potential.
The device layout includes 6 slots for connecting drives (4 SATA3 + 2 M.2 with support for the PCIe 4.0 bus) and several reinforced PCIe slots for video cards (Crossfire mode). For connecting RAM, there are 4 standard DIMM slots that support up to 128 GB of new generation DDR5 memory with a maximum frequency of 7600 MHz. Network traffic is distributed by a Realtek LAN controller with a bandwidth of 2.5 Gbps and a pre-installed wireless module (Wi-Fi 6E + Bluetooth v5.3).

I bought myself a Gigabyte, although I really wanted Asus or MSI for building a new PC with the 14th generation Intel. But this motherboard came at a good price. Overall, I'm quite impressed. The board looks solid: heavy and massive heatsinks, proper layout, everything is neatly done, even though it's in the mid-price segment of motherboards. It's very nice that this board has 4 M.2 slots and 6 SATA connectors, which allows for a build with a lot of different hard drives, and that's important with current prices. I won't be overclocking, though this is a top-end chipset with that capability. The build will be paired with an i5-12600KF. There are 19 power phases and CPU power is 2x8 pins, so this board can easily handle even top-end i9s. Everything started up without issues, but I needed to update the BIOS to make the motherboard accept the 14th-generation processors, but doing this via flash is not difficult. Under load, everything in terms of temperature is absolutely fine and within normal limits. DDR5 memory started with XMP without any problems or glitches. There is also a 2.5-gigabit network, which is nice to see even in the mid-range segment nowadays. It's not a top-end board, but for a gaming build, it offers an excellent balance of price and capabilities. Plus, it has excellent built-in sound and a good fast network, which is also nice. 4 M.2 slots, massive heat sinks, inexpensive compared to competitors, a nice balance of price and features. not found  Vladimir I: use Gigabyte Z790 GAMING X AX few months |
