Moderately thin and light mid-range 15-inch gaming laptops from MSI. They belong to the middle price segment, are part of the new Cyborg line, which the Taiwanese giant MSI launched in 2023. This series strictly follows the trend set by MSI designers a couple of years ago: this is a moderately strict and minimalist device with a minimum of decorative elements, the game breed of which is given out only by a futuristic keyboard with original turquoise backlighting and an unusual design of the back of the laptop.
Like other mid-range gaming laptops, this line is equipped with standard 15.6-inch screens (IPS-class matrix) with a resolution of 1080p and a mandatory refresh rate of 144 Hz, without which it is now difficult to imagine a serious gaming device. To connect peripherals, smartphones and other gadgets, a large set of USB ports of various classes is provided. The network interface supports a gigabit wired connection and can work in Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.2 wireless networks.
An anti-theft lock and a TPM cryptographic module are responsible for the security of the device. Fast charging is not supported. The built-in webcam broadcasts images in 720p resolution. The case of the device combines plastic and aluminium elements. The weight of the device is 1.98 kg, which is a rather modest result for a 15-inch gaming laptop. Case thickness ― 23 mm. The performance of the MSI Cyborg 15 A12VE is provided by an 8/10-core Intel Core i5/i7 processor (12th generation, Alder lake).
This generation of Intel Core microprocessors differs from previous generations in that it contains an expanded number of computing cores, which are divided into two groups: powerful P-cores and auxiliary E-cores. The former are used in solving intensive tasks, while the auxiliary cores are used to perform simpler everyday tasks. The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 graphics card with 8 GB of VRAM supports next-generation hardware tracing, which is extremely demanding on computing resources.
To improve performance, the card was equipped with next-generation tensor cores with embedded DLSS 3.0 frame rendering technology. Simply put, ray tracing makes the picture beautiful, but it slows down a lot, and DLSS removes these brakes, making the gameplay smoother and more enjoyable. To cool the laptop, a proprietary Cooler Boost system is provided with a pair of air coolers and several heat pipes.
