The Nokia N97 Mini is actually a modified and refined version of the Nokia N97 smartphone that entered the market in early 2009.

Changes in the N97 Mini touched, first of all, the appearance. The Mini prefix speaks directly about the reduction in size — in numerical terms, it may seem insignificant, but as a result, the device lies much more comfortably in the hand, noticeably thinner, and, moreover, does not have unnecessary protruding parts. The shutter covering the camera has disappeared, the battery cover is not made of plastic, but of metal. In general, the build quality is significantly higher than its predecessor.

The joystick disappeared from the physical keyboard, the keys on it became larger, and the dimensions, along with the dimensions of the entire device, became smaller. The latter did not affect the convenience of its use, especially for people with large hands.

On the other hand, the screen, having decreased to 3.2'' (from 3.5''), has not lost its usability, and its opening angle is larger than that of its predecessor, which undoubtedly became a plus. The hinges of the opening mechanism are made of metal.

Speaking about the design, it is also worth noting that, unlike the Nokia N97, hot-swappable memory cards are provided.

From the point of view of the “hardware”, the changes have seriously affected the built-in flash-memory of the phone — it has been reduced four times, to 8 GB. At the same time, the volume of disk C, on the contrary, increased from 70 MB to 256 MB. The volume of virtual RAM has also been increased — from 256 to 512 MB (with the same physical memory — 128 MB).

The parameters of the additional camera have become more modest: its maximum resolution is 320x240, which is half the size of its predecessor. The FM transmitter is gone.

The N97 Mini is equipped with a weaker battery — 1200 mAh versus 1500 mAh for the original N97. In fact, the phone requires recharging every evening.

The software N97 Mini is characterized by numerous pre-installed applications. A major update has affected maps — version 3.01 Touch allows you to display the landscape and has maximum information richness.

In general, being a reduced and simplified version of the N97, the N97 Mini does not differ radically from it and is suitable primarily for those who, due to the high cost or size, were not satisfied with the original N97.
