High luminosity. Soft bokeh. Blend included.

Fast "fifty kopecks" (taking into account the crop factor of Micro 4/3 cameras, equal to two) from the category of state employees. Despite the availability, the bayonet mount at the fix is made of metal, and the autofocus motor lurks inside its body. The optical scheme of the lens consists of 8 elements, combined in 7 groups. It has a pair of aspherical lenses and one high refractive index (UHR) element.

The 7-blade aperture of the Panasonic 25mm f/1.7 opens up to a maximum of f/1.7 and its minimum aperture is f/16. The lens is aimed at the target from a minimum focus distance of 25 cm. The small size (61x52 mm) and light weight (only 125 g) increase the attractiveness of the model in the eyes of owners of compact Micro 4/3 mirrorless cameras, which include Olympus and Panasonic photographic equipment.

Video reviews

It is believed that the focal length around 50 mm (full frame equivalent) roughly corresponds to how our eyes see. Hence the secret of the popularity of all kinds of "fifty dollars", which include the Panasonic Lumix 25mm f / 1.7 ASPH (taking into account the 2x crop factor of the Micro 4/3 system).

Minimalism

The appearance of the model is completely dominated by minimalism — of the functional elements on the lens body, there is only a focus ring. Its stroke from the minimum focus distance (25 cm) to infinity is 600 °, which corresponds to two incomplete turns of the ring. The plastic “outfit” of the fix is diluted with a metal bayonet mount at the point where the lens docks with the “carcass” of the camera. Also "out of the box" a hood is attached to the model.

Effective blur

The optical design of the Panasonic Lumix 25mm f/1.7 ASPH consists of 8 elements in 7 groups. In addition , 7 aperture blades provide soft bokeh with regular object circles in the blur zone in the centre of the frame and ellipsoids closer to the edges. The lens does not guarantee a direct artistic background blur, but with “straight arms” and focus at close distances, you can very effectively separate the subject from the background.

Availability

With sharpness, the model is doing well, with the exception of the “blurring” of the edges of the frame when shooting at an open aperture of f / 1.7. The situation evens out already at f / 2.8, and in the future, the detail of the images only grows. The lens would have even faster autofocus, which sometimes behaves slowly at dusk, as well as when shooting video, and it would not have a price at all. However, the “half-shock” works out its cost in full, being the most affordable among its peers for the Micro 4/3 system.
