A 4K OLED TV from a popular Japanese brand debuted on the market in 2017. This 65-inch panel represents the premium Bravia lineup and is the bigger brother of the Sony KD-55A1 with its 55-inch screen.

Unique Design and Audio System

The Sony KD-65A1 features a "TV without a stand" concept. Instead, it uses a KickStand prop that supports the panel from the back, approximately 30 cm away from the screen. From the front, it seems as though there is no stand at all.

The 4.1 format acoustics are implemented with Acoustic Surface technology. Sound emanates from the entire display surface, passing through the matrix's organic LEDs. The resulting vibrations provide sound depth and excellent synchronization with video. All Sony KD-65A1's connections, as well as the subwoofer, are located in the kick stand. When placed on a horizontal surface, this solution ensures excellent low-frequency sound. However, there's a drawback—when wall-mounted, some loss in subwoofer sound quality is unavoidable as it is essentially trapped between the screen and the wall.

Exceptional Picture

The 65-inch OLED matrix, along with the new X1 Extreme processor, delivers excellent image quality, including in dynamic scenes. This applies to beautiful dark tones and contrast. The brightness, by visual impression, is even better than the top LG models.

UHD resolution delivers excellent picture detail, and HDR support (when playing corresponding content) provides good contouring and fine detail.

Advantages of Android TV

The TV is made "smart" by the Android TV platform with Google Home integration. In addition to a wide range of apps and multimedia services, convenient voice control of home devices is also added.

A downside of the Sony KD-65A1 is its high cost and significant operating expenses (the panel consumes 0.5 kW per hour of operation). It is also noteworthy that there is no 3D support, which might disappoint owners of 3D Blu-ray disc collections.

Overall, the Sony KD-65A1 is a worthy competitor to premium OLED TVs from LG (such as the OLED65G7V model) and other manufacturers. Original ideas and solutions are implemented in the creation of the TV.
