normal model, nothing special

Sony has done a lot right with the Xperia 5, but like the larger Xperia 1, it still feels a bit overpriced and/or under-equipped.
More convenient size than Xperia 1
The screen does not get bright enough
No wireless charging

A smartphone for those who are looking for something unusual, or for Sony fans.

Writing a review as a diehard tech enthusiast in the field of smartphones. I've used everything possible, equally love Android and iOS. Purchased it from a Sony store for 49,990, received a free year of additional warranty (nice touch). The phone has its own style and concept, convenient in everyday use. The overall impression is rather good, but many things could be better.
- Unquestionable design
- Ergonomics (for understanding, it's slightly larger than the S8). Very comfortable.
- Screen. It's a really good OLED, without strong PWM. Compared to the S9 and S10e, the colors and PWM are less aggressive. The settings are more or less flexible.
- Nearly stock Android. The interface is very light and does not change much.
- Build quality. There are no gaps between the glass and the body, everything fits perfectly (no worse than the latest iPhones).
- Cameras. They aren't top-tier, but they are decent. If you know what you're doing, you'll get excellent shots. The night mode is average, nothing special. The strong suit is in the extended Cinema Pro mode, but that requires a good understanding of photography basics.
- The screen is properly calibrated. Typing is pleasant and easy, with good response (iPhone owners will understand).
- Loud sound from the speakers, although it is very flat.
- Performance and lack of significant heating (but that’s not rare these days).
- It's nice that the charging is USB-C from both ends (though this might be inconvenient for some, but not in my case).
- I would consider the battery a plus. I expected a completely dead battery, but it survives with 2 SIMs and geolocation from early morning till evening. But it doesn't perform exceptionally.
- The aspect ratio is strange. For example: scrolling through social media feeds is really more convenient, but watching videos is not. Let me explain, somewhere on Netflix the picture will be full-screen 21:9, but we usually watch YouTube, so… square video in the center and black bars on the sides. (It's not exactly a minus for this phone, it's just there, so decide for yourself).
- The vibration motor. Let's say, if you've used an iPhone with the Taptic Engine, you'll find the vibration on this Sony horrible. That's why I turned it off. However, if you've been using smartphones with a regular vibration motor before, nothing terrible awaits you. It's the same here. (dynamic vibration loses its meaning with such a motor).
- Poorly adjusted proximity sensor. During a call, the screen often lights up, which leads to "face touch". I'm constantly muting the sound. It's a bit easier now, as I've gotten used to it. But it's just dealing with the symptom, not the cause.
- The sound from the speakers, although stereo, is quite flat. By default, the sound in headphones is also flat, but you can adjust it through the settings - then it'll be fine.
- Lack of wireless charging.
- The fingerprint scanner is really bad. Not only is it narrower than on the same Z5, but it also responds poorly. On the same S10e, it works lightning fast.

Can't get any worse!
1. The screen gets scratched by the branded case! - in half a year all the edges are scratched to death
2. No VoLTE/VoWiFi and there won't be - carriers don't support this phone in Russia
3. No eye focus

Once upon a time, Sony practiced the release of compact versions of flagships. The Xperia 5 model, which is essentially a smaller version of the Sony Xperia 1, can be reckoned as such with a stretch.

"Long" screen

At the “unity”, the model spied on the crown “chip” — a particularly elongated screen with cinematic proportions of 21:9. It is built on an OLED-matrix with a resolution of 2520x1080 pixels at a 6.1-inch diagonal. A display of this format is a real boon for avid cinephiles and multitaskers. There is no “hairstyle” on the screen, however, there are small “forehead” and “chin” in size.

Top hardware

Inside the Sony Xperia 5, a top-level “hardware” is installed: a performant “octa-core” Snapdragon 855, 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of non-volatile memory with support for expanding the amount of space by refusing the services of a second SIM card (a microSD card is placed in the hybrid slot in its place ). Problems with the speed of the smartphone is not expected from the word "at all".

triple camera

The device takes pictures with a triple main camera, which uses a combination of 12 MP image sensors with a standard viewing angle (1 / 2.6 "with f / 1.6 optics), a wide-angle lens and a telephoto lens with a two-fold zoom. The model will please mobile videographers in a separate line — in the standard Cinema application Pro, flexible settings for shooting videos and their subsequent editing are available.

Charged

Other "goodies" in the bins of the Sony Xperia 5 are full-range speakers with support for Dolby Atmos surround sound, an NFC chip for contactless payments, fast battery charging (from zero to 50% in just half an hour at the outlet), as well as a side fingerprint scanner. In pursuit, the smartphone got support for a wireless connection to the DualShock 4 game controller. You will have to pay a lot for the model, but here you should understand that a true flagship cannot be cheap a priori.
