HBM2

— the second generation of high-speed HBM memory, introduced in 2016.

Originally HBM is a RAM technology used primarily in graphics cards and fundamentally different in principle from previous standards like GDDR of different versions. In fact, this difference is expressed in a significantly increased bandwidth, which allows to create memory chips with a low clock frequency, efficient power consumption and at the same time high performance. The downside of these advantages is the high price.

Specifically, in HBM2, the bandwidth, compared to the original HBM, was doubled. This makes such memory especially useful for resource-intensive tasks like working with virtual reality.
