For example, when driving self-tapping screws into hardwood, high torque is usually required, and when unscrewing old bolts with worn heads, the force sometimes has to be reduced so as not to completely rip off the slot. Torque adjustment can be found in all types of tools (see "Device"), however, for drill drivers it is almost mandatory — in fact, due to this adjustment, the switch between drill and screwdriver modes occurs.
