— pickups equipped with their own built-in preamps. Thanks to the latter, simpler coils can be used in such devices than in passive ones, with fewer turns, which has a positive effect on noise immunity and overall reliability. In addition, such pickups reproduce higher frequencies better and generally have a more uniform frequency response. However, the coloring of the sound is largely subjective, and in this sense, active pickups have both supporters and opponents. The unequivocal disadvantages of this option are a higher cost than passive modules, as well as the need for their own power supply (usually a PP3 battery plays the role of a power source).
